Mr. Philippe Denier has been Director of the OPCW’s Verification Division since September 2014. With a background in engineering, Mr Denier began his career in the French Atomic Energy Commission (CEA) in 1985, progressively serving as research engineer, team leader and quality manager. While serving with the CEA, he was a member of the French delegation to the negotiations of the Comprehensive Nuclear-Test-Ban Treaty (CTBT) and was in charge of the renewal of the ISO certifications of the CEA’s Military Application Division.
Mr Denier served as Chief of the Evaluation Section of the CTBTO’s Provisional Technical Secretariat for five years, where he was responsible for reporting on the development of the Organisation’s main technical objectives. He has also been a policy officer to the European Commission’s Delegation to Singapore. From 2008 to 2014, Mr Denier served as Adviser on Nuclear Affairs to the French Ministry of Defence. In his personal capacity, he has been a member of the international panel of experts advising the Nuclear Threat Initiative on the establishment of its Nuclear Materials Security Index.
