Hugh Gregg obtained his Ph.D. in Analytical Chemistry in 1985 at Michigan State University in the United States. He worked at the Lawrence Livermore National Laboratory in California, first as an organic analytical chemist in the oil shale program followed by becoming a group leader in both organic and inorganic analysis.
Hugh later took on a variety of management roles which included managing the chemistry operations at LLNL’s explosives test site and becoming a deputy division leader managing the experimental work of a division of over 150 scientists. In 2000, he co-led the effort to establish LLNL as an OPCW Designated Laboratory. In 2010, after 25 years at LLNL, Hugh left California for the Netherlands, where he is the Head of the OPCW Laboratory.
