Mr. Cheng Tang was elected as the Vice-Chair of the Scientific Advisory Board of the OPCW June 2014. He is the Deputy Chief of the Office of the Disposal of Japanese Abandoned Chemical Weapons (JACW) at the Ministry of National Defence of China. From November 2013 to February 2014, he was seconded to the Technical Secretariat of the OPCW– with a role in the Operation Planning Group concerning the movement and destruction of Syrian declared chemical weapons.
Prior to his current position, he served as a senior chemical demilitarization officer within the Verification Division of the Technical Secretariat from 1997 to 2004. From early 1991 until the conclusion of the CWC negotiations in September 1992, Mr. Tang was an expert as part of the Chinese delegation to the Conference of Disarmament in Geneva, where he participated in the end game negotiations of the CWC
